Core to College

Core to College promotes strong collaboration and alignment between Indiana’s higher education institutions and K-12 schools. The Core to College initiative focuses on increasing college-readiness among students through the implementation of the Common Core State Standards and corresponding PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment.

Indiana’s Core to College initiative drives targeted activities to develop K-12 school and postsecondary institution alignment on:

  • the definition of college-readiness;
  • use of Common Core State Standard assessments as a determinant of a student’s readiness for credit-bearing course enrollments; and
  • academic alignment across the K-12 and higher education sectors.

Core to College is directed by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and administered by the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL). The project is funded nationally by Lumina Foundation, the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
