Indiana New Tech Network Under New Leadership

Dr. David Dresslar, senior fellow for high school transformation with the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL), has assumed leadership of the Indiana New Technology High School Network. The change in administration came with the announcement of CELL Senior Fellow Nancy Sutton's retirement in February.

Dresslar has been with CELL since 2004 and has directed the implementation of several small schools within Marion County. He currently leads the Indiana Early College High School Network and is directing the Indiana High School-to-College Transition Project, a policy study examining state and institutional policies that can be improved to help high school students with successful college careers.

"It is a pleasure to be working with Indiana's New Tech Network. This is a great opportunity to make significant changes within several schools and communities to improve the educational opportunities we offer Indiana's students," said Dresslar. "By leading each of CELL's high school networks, we can bring this work together to create a greater impact for our state."

Sutton will continue to work with the Indiana New Technology High School Network as a consultant focused on community and business development. She continues to assist schools in the exploration and implementation processes for launching a New Tech High School.

Sutton's visionary leadership helped bring the New Tech High School model to Indiana. Under her direction, CELL launched the Indiana New Technology High School Network and supported the opening of the state's first three New Tech High Schools. Her work has created several collaborations between schools, communities and businesses to transform education to improve Indiana's economic development.

"Nancy’s energy and commitment have combined to give a real boost to the interest we have seen in Indiana for the New Tech model. What she has begun will continue to mean greater opportunities for Indiana students for years to come," Dresslar said.

Dresslar has plans to expand the Indiana New Technology Network by enhancing the services it provides to schools and communities. The network, including partners from the Indiana Governor's Office, the Indiana Department of Education, New Technology Foundation, Techpoint Foundation, and Indiana University, are working to develop resources, provide technical support and create long-term sustainability plans for new and existing New Technology High Schools.
