Schools and communities throughout Indiana are exploring and implementing the New Technology High School model at an increasing rate. Bloomington New Tech High and Columbus Signature Academy will join Indiana's three inaugural New Tech schools in fall 2008. With these additions, the New Technology High School model will be in schools in the northern, central and southern regions of Indiana. The momentum continues as an additional 10 groups representing more than 30 schools currently are exploring the New Technology High School model.
On a national level, Indiana is one of eight states implementing the New Tech High School model in partnership with New Technology Foundation. New Tech also exists in California, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, New York, Oregon, and Texas, but Indiana currently hosts the largest amount of activity in transforming schools to this 21st-century learning school model.
To provide support and guidance to these communities, the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis hosts the Indiana New Technology High School Network. The network brings participants together to share best practices, address common concerns and exchange information to aid in the development and implementation of the New Tech model. In addition, CELL leads site visits to successful New Technology High Schools, provides coaching services to school leaders and teachers, and assists with business development and community asset-building. The network serves as a support system for the successful implementation of the New Technology High School model throughout the state.
