Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation Prepares for Launch of New Tech High School

Plans are moving forward in preparation for the August opening of the New Tech Campus of Columbus Signature Academy. Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation recently completed the enrollment lottery process and is working with architects to design the new school.

The school corporation is taking a unique approach to implementing the New Technology High School model. New Tech will open to selected students in kindergarten through ninth grade and will eventually expand to include all grades.

More than 1,200 students applied for the 480 New Tech openings. The corporation conducted a stratified lottery to reflect overall student population demographics including special needs, free and reduced lunch, and limited English proficiency. Students selected through the lottery system had two weeks to complete the enrollment process. Parents were asked to evaluate the preferred learning styles of their children and to commit to the success of their children and Columbus Signature Academy.

The high school design team has been meeting with CSO Architects to design the interior of the new school. The group has been focused on creating learning space ideal for project-based learning. When complete, the school will not look like a traditional high school, but instead will reflect corporate workspace with learning studios rather than classrooms.

With students selected and building design underway, the school design teams are planning the curriculum for each grade level. Upcoming orientation meetings for students and parents will include discussions of the curriculum, school goals and future plans.
