CELL Launches Web Site for New Tech in Indiana
By Lauren K. Howard

New Tech in Indiana has a new address—cell.uindy.edu/NTHS. CELL expanded its Web site in February to include information tailored for schools, parents and community members about the New Technology High School model and its impact in Indiana. The site provides information for those people exploring the model as well as those working with existing New Tech schools. The expanded site describes the New Tech model, details the work happening in Indiana, includes videos about New Tech to promote the model, and provides resources to assist New Tech teachers and school leaders.

The site begins with answering the question “What is New Tech?” by providing an overview of the model and its five foundational elements. The section includes additional information about 21st-century skills, technology usage, project-based learning, and teaching at New Tech.

The site next details the early successes of New Techs around the country to answer the question “Why New Tech High?”. This section of the site describes how New Tech began and provides multiple videos about the model, including some created by students from Zebra New Tech High in Rochester.

To learn about New Tech High in Indiana, site visitors can discover how the model came to Indiana, what schools are involved, and learn about the New Tech expansion plans. A page is dedicated to recognizing Indiana’s schools achieving Distinguished Implementation status and the teachers and trainers who have been awarded 21st Century Certification. For those interested in experiencing New Tech firsthand, the site lists contact information for national and local school tours.

New Tech has been receiving a great deal of buzz in the media. The expanded site lists media coverage for New Tech in Indiana and provides schools with the opportunity to submit their own news stories for coverage. The site also provides access to implementation resources and project-based learning information. For any questions that still exist, visitors can submit questions about New Tech through the Web site, which will receive a personal response from CELL.

The site will continue to be modified as New Tech expands across Indiana. Schools are encouraged to submit news stories and accomplishments to be featured on the site and in the Indiana New Tech newsletter.
