Indiana New Tech High Schools Benefit from Technology Grants
Indiana’s New Tech High Schools are increasingly successful at receiving competitive grant awards. This summer the Indiana Department of Education awarded federal stimulus grants to several Indiana school districts through the Enhancing Education through Technology (Ed-Tech) Program. The U.S. Department of Education’s goals for the Ed-Tech program include using technology to improve elementary and secondary student achievement, cultivating technological literacy in students by the end of eighth grade and establishing universal, research-based instructional methods by integrating technology with teacher training and curriculum development.

Fort Wayne Community Schools and the Monroe County Community School Corporation each received grants to further the acquisition of technology and professional development to support 21st-century skills development throughout their districts. Three districts planning to establish New Tech schools in 2010 received funding that will support their New Tech plans, two of which partnered with existing New Technology High Schools: Lake Ridge Schools in partnership with Northwestern Shelby County Consolidated School Corporation, Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation in partnership with North Daviess Community Schools, and Oregon-Davis School Corporation.
