Indiana Education Policy Fellowship Program

Purpose:
The Indiana Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP) is a 10-month professional development initiative for emerging and professional leaders across multiple sectors, including education, government and business. Program fellows engage in a variety of structured activities and interactions designed to build leadership capacity and develop more in-depth knowledge and understanding of key local, state and federal policy issues through the dual agenda of educational equity and excellence.

The program, designed for established professionals in educational and human services policy making and implementation, provides opportunities for Fellows to gain insight into key policy issues, to examine best practices used by leaders, and to develop the leadership skills and qualities necessary to advance individuals and organizations toward their vision.  Participating Fellows represent a wide variety of individuals ranging from school principals, superintendents, state department of education and governmental officials, university faculty and leaders from communities, businesses and industry. Fellows remain in their full-time positions and meet monthly to explore leadership and policy issues at the state and national level.  The Fellowship includes two national conferences—the Leadership Forum and the Washington Policy Seminar.

Goals:
The Indiana EPFP has five major goals:

  • To broaden Fellows' understanding and preparation to effectively deal with public policy processes, issues and roles;
  • To create structured opportunities for professionals to interact and share issues and best practices;
  • To hone the specific skills necessary for leaders and partners of collaborative change efforts in the 21st century;
  • To enhance individual capacity to work effectively in collaborative settings; and
  • To expand the Fellows' professional reach and resources through exceptional opportunities for networking.
