With funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CELL has invested nearly $3 million to create and support innovative small high schools throughout Marion County to meet the diverse needs of students. These schools are using new models and teaching practices facilitated by technical assistance, school coaching and professional development provided by CELL.
Small schools are making a big impact on education in Indianapolis. Research is showing improved student achievement, increased attendance, decreased discipline problems, and a narrowing achievement gap between student groups.
Each Marion County small school is taking a distinctive approach to education, but all are characterized by high expectations for all students, equity in student outcomes, shared decision-making, and personalized instruction. Every school is built around the new "three Rs" of education:
CELL provides assistance to schools devoted to preparing every student for college, work and citizenship. The founders of these schools are committed to implementing a set of core attributes and share the vision of making increased academic achievement a reality for all students.
