After launching the Cognitive Science Academy for instructional teams during the 2024-2025 school year, the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis is excited to continue our partnership with InnerDrive, a UK-based teaching and learning organization, to offer a new micro-credential in the science of learning.

This course and micro-credential starts on September 10 and features:

  • 8 online asynchronous modules
  • 4 synchronous sessions on September 24, October 8, October 22, and November 5 (Wednesdays) from 6:30 - 8 PM ET

Audience

This micro-credential is designed for individual educators, including K-12 teachers and instructional coaches, building and district leaders, and higher education faculty and leaders.

There is not currently a group rate. 

This course offers a hybrid of asynchronous online modules and virtual review sessions. Participants will complete:

  • 8 asynchronous modules, with two sessions available over each two-week period
  • Four synchronous sessions, covering two modules each

The modules will be open from September 10 through November 7, with 8 online asynchronous modules requiring approximately 1-2 hours each to complete.  


Four live, virtual sessions will be held on September 24, October 8, October 22, and November 5 from 6:30 to 8 PM Eastern.

The course features eight modules, which will cover:

  • Clear Explanations
  • Retrieval Practice
  • Spacing, Interleaving & Dual Coding
  • Asking Effective Questions
  • Cold Calling and Wait Times
  • Metacognition
To receive the micro-credential certificate, participants must complete 100% of the online modules, participate in 3 of the 4 synchronous sessions, and complete all required assessments. Participants who do not complete these requirements will still receive professional growth plan (PGP) points, or continuing education credits, but will not receive a micro-credential certificate.
Participants who complete each online module and each synchronous session will receive up to 18 PGP points, or continuing education credits, which may be applied toward licensure renewal depending on individual state requirements. Participants will also receive a micro-credential certificate in the science of learning. This micro-credential is not accredited but can be shared on LinkedIn and listed on résumés as evidence of professional development.

Cognitive science (also known as the science of learning) draws upon several underlying academic theories, primarily from psychology, education, and increasingly, neuroscience. These theories offer different lenses through which we understand how individuals acquire, process, and retain knowledge and skills.
