About the Speakers
Doug Fisher, Ph.D. and Nancy Frey, Ph.D. are professors at San Diego State University. Doug and Nancy are in educational leadership and focus on policies and practices in literacy and language, especially for students who are English Learners, and for students with disabilities. Their shared interests include supporting learners with diverse learning needs, instructional design, and curriculum development. They are co-authors of numerous articles and books on literacy and leadership, including Teaching Foundational Skills to Adolescent Readers, How Scaffolding Works: A Playbook for Supporting and Releasing Responsibility to Students, and The Courage to Learn. They are also teacher-leaders at Health Sciences High and Middle College, where they learn from students, teachers, and families every day.
